This news from Chhattisgarh's Balod district feels quite unsettling, because sudden death of few animals is one thing, but 50 to 70 bats being found dead daily is not small thing ah . And when it keeps happening for past few days, obviously people will start getting worried.
Reports say this is happening in Dalli Rajhara region, where local forest officials have been finding dead bats again and again . Authorities and Forest Department are now treating it as abnormal wildlife mortality event, which honestly sounds serious enough.
And tbh,the scary part is that nobody knows exact reason yet . Preliminary talk is around extreme heat and possible infections, but officials are not giving final reason before lab report comes .
Samples from deceased bats have already been collected and sent to ICAR-National High Security Animal Disease laboratory in Bhopal for analysis . Forest department and veterinary department are both involved now,so this is not being taken casually .
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Between 50 and 70 bats have been found dead daily.
- Forest and veterinary departments have started joint investigation.
- Residents have been asked to report dead bats and avoid touching them .
But this public warning is very important also . Administration has appealed to local residents not to touch any dead or sick bats and to inform authorities immediately if they see anything like that nearby.
Senior forest officials have also told departments to stay alert . A dedicated forest team is monitoring area, checking affected zones and collecting more samples wherever needed.
And honestly, this is where things become uncomfortable, because bats dying in such numbers can be linked to weather, stress, infection or something else completely . Jumping to conclusion can create panic, but ignoring it also does not feel safe.
For now, everything depends on what lab results from Bhopal show . Till then,Dalli Rajhara is left with same uneasy question… why are so many bats dying suddenly?
