After Siddaramaiah resigned from Chief Minister's position,State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar is now saying electing new Congress Legislature Party leader is first priority.
Shivakumar said this after meeting Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi . And honestly, that meeting itself says lot because he is seen as strong candidate for Chief Minister role and is clearly in active talks with party leadership .
But he did not go into details about swearing-in ceremony or new Cabinet formation . His point was simple: first CLP leader has to be elected, then other things will move step by step .
CLP meeting is set to take place in Bengaluru on Saturday evening . All party MLAs have been told to stay in city, and timing of meeting came as per Congress high command directives.
Few things standing out in this whole political moment:
- CLP meeting scheduled for Saturday will elect new leader to fill Siddaramaiah's position .
- Shivakumar's consultations included meetings with Congress MPs and MLAs over new government formation .
- Leadership talks also involved Shivakumar and former Minister K.J. George discussing strategies with Siddaramaiah .
And tbh, this is where pressure becomes very visible . Caretaker Chief Minister has called CLP meeting so transition can happen smoothly, but everyone knows this meeting is not just routine formality.
Siddaramaiah is still leading CLP and meeting will be presided over by him,as all members of Legislative Assembly and party leaders have been asked to participate . New CLP leader is expected to become party's nominee for Chief Minister role.
At same time,Congress clearly wants to avoid public confusion or internal noise right now . Karnataka government formation depends on how this one leadership call is handled, and nobody inside party seems interested in giving extra hints before meeting.
But politics is never that simple ah . Shivakumar is in Delhi,MLAs are being kept in Bengaluru,Siddaramaiah is still part of process, and high command is holding cards close… so real question is who finally gets that chair after Saturday evening…
