Another day,another story of corruption that is just so disappointing to read . This time it's from Jharkhand,where a bank manager from SBI was arrested by CBI for taking bribe. And not just any bribe,but bribe to process an insurance claim for someone's deceased mother.
So what happened is,CBI arrested the Branch Manager of SBI in Dumaria,Godda district . They registered a case on May 31 after getting complaint against him.
The manager was allegedly demanding ₹60,000 bribe to clear claim under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) . And this claim was for ₹2 lakh,which belonged to complainant whose mother had passed away.
And honestly,this is where things get really uncomfortable.
When CBI laid a trap on June 1,they apparently caught him red-handed accepting a total bribe of ₹77,000 . Police say this extra ₹17,000 was another demand he made to lift hold on a ₹35,000 withdrawal. It's just one demand after another.
Few things standing out in this whole mess:
- Alleged bribe demand was ₹60,000 for ₹2 lakh insurance claim.
- The claim was for deceased mother of complainant,under a government scheme.
- CBI caught him while he was accepting total ₹77,000 bribe.
And after the arrest,CBI has also started searches at his office and residence to find more evidence . This is part of a larger crackdown on corruption rn,which is good to see.
But it also makes you think about bigger picture . Just recently CBI arrested Amitabh Jhunjhunwala in a case that caused over ₹6,000 crore loss to an SBI-led bank consortium. These things seem to be happening everywhere .
This kind of thing is exactly why common person loses faith in the system . These schemes are made to help people in their toughest times,not for officials to make money out of their grief. It's not a small thing ah.
You just wonder how many other people are facing this kind of harassment and are too scared or don't know how to complain…
