Finally some good news for everyone in Delhi-NCR . IMD has announced a full week of thunderstorms and rain. After the kind of heat we've been seeing, this feels like huge relief .
And they are saying temperatures will stay below 40 degrees Celsius until June 5 . On Tuesday only,Delhi recorded a maximum of 37.7 degrees Celsius, which is actually 2.3 degrees below normal for this time.
It's happening across the city too,not just one area . Places like Ayanagar saw a high of only 36.1 degrees Celsius, and Lodhi Road was at 36 degrees . This is proper respite from the usual summer heat ah .
And honestly, this is where things get a bit complicated.
While we are getting this break, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has also given a bigger warning . They are reporting that El Niño conditions are starting, driven by warm ocean waters.
This is supposed to affect global temperature and rainfall in a big way . WMO Secretary-General Celeste Saulo's statement was pretty serious,"We need to prepare for a potentially strong El Niño event, which will exacerbate drought and heavy rainfall."
Few things standing out rn:
- Delhi-NCR region will get thunderstorms and rainfall for week .
- Temperatures are expected to stay below the 40-degree mark until early June .
- A global El Niño warning suggests more extreme weather events are likely.
And tbh, that WMO warning is a bit worrying . One side we are happy about cool weather here, but this talk of drought and heavy rain on a global level is not a small thing .
Of course, even locally rainfall could disrupt daily life . IMD is telling residents to stay informed because of potential challenges to daily routines. We all know what happens to traffic when it rains in Delhi.
So it’s like good news for now,but with a big question mark attached . Enjoying cool weather but also wondering what this El Niño will really mean for us…
