Former Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) technical officer Ram Vinod Singh has now been convicted in disproportionate assets case, and matter goes all way back to 2007 .
Special CBI court in Ranchi sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment and also imposed fine of ₹25 lakh . Court was presided over by Special Judge Yogesh Kumar, and order also says if fine is not paid within given time, there will be additional year of imprisonment.
And this is not small thing ah,because case started after CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch registered case against him . Investigation found that Ram Vinod Singh had allegedly accumulated assets worth approximately ₹34 lakh beyond his known income sources.
During investigation,CBI officials carried out searches at his residences in Jamshedpur and other locations . Those searches reportedly led to recovery of cash amounting to ₹68,000 along with documents related to properties which were disproportionate to his legitimate income.
Few things standing out clearly in this case:
- Case against Ram Vinod Singh began in 2007 after CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch registered it.
- CBI said he had assets worth approximately ₹34 lakh beyond known income sources.
- Court sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed ₹25 lakh fine.
And tbh, what makes such cases frustrating is time gap . From 2007 to this conviction,so many years have passed, but still paper trail, witnesses and documents finally mattered inside court.
CBI public prosecutor Davinder Pal Sood argued that Singh had misused his official position to build wealth through corrupt means . Court examined witnesses and documentary evidence before convicting him under Prevention of Corruption Act,1988 .
But bigger issue is public sector corruption itself . When person holding government-linked post is accused of using position for personal wealth,it affects trust of ordinary people also . People already feel system protects powerful ones,so every such conviction gets noticed.
And at same time, one question keeps coming back — how many such cases are still lying somewhere in files, waiting for years before truth finally reaches courtroom…
