This Karnataka political switch is not small thing ah . After Siddaramaiah decided to step down,D.K. Shivakumar is now expected to become state’s new Chief Minister, and whole Congress setup looks like it is moving fast now .
H.K. Patil,a prominent Karnataka Minister, confirmed that Shivakumar is already lined up for post . His exact words were,"Shivakumar is already the Chief Minister-designate," which pretty much tells where party decision is heading .
And from what has come out,Siddaramaiah communicated his decision to resign during discussions held in Delhi . After that, things seem to have gone into formal mode, with Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting scheduled for tomorrow at 4 PM .
Few points standing out clearly here:
- Siddaramaiah's resignation — Seen as a loyal gesture to the party leadership .
- Shivakumar's role — Set to be sworn in as the new Chief Minister.
- CLP meeting scheduled — To formalize decision at 4 PM tomorrow .
And tbh,CLP meeting now feels more like stamping decision already taken by High Command . Patil said Shivakumar will likely be sworn in within next two days, and expectation is oath may happen either the day after tomorrow or shortly thereafter.
But caste angle also came up,as it always does in Karnataka politics . Patil dismissed those questions as unnecessary and pointed out that Shivakumar has supported OBC causes . He said Shivakumar’s political journey is connected with efforts to uplift OBC community,so he did not see need for such debate.
After resignation,Siddaramaiah met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at Sonia Gandhi's residence in New Delhi . He reportedly got warm welcome there, which sends message that party wants to show unity and respect, not any bitter exit scene.
And for now,Siddaramaiah will continue in caretaker capacity until new government is officially formed . That part matters because power transfer may look smooth outside, but inside Congress, these moves are never just simple chair-changing only .
Karnataka has seen enough political balancing already, and now question is whether D.K . Shivakumar’s rise will settle things inside party or open new silent tensions later…
