Just read one very disturbing story coming from Ganjam district in Odisha . A 32-year-old physically disabled man,Susant Sahu, has died, and his family is alleging he was tortured in police custody. This is just horrible ah.
The incident happened at Kabisuryanagar police station . And now,the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) party has stepped in,announcing on June 2 that they are forming a special team to investigate what really happened.
This is not some small thing . The party created 17-member fact-finding team with big leaders like Ramesh Chyau Patnaik and Bhrugu Baxipatra . Their job is to go to Susant's village, talk to his family, talk to locals, and then make a full report for the party president,Naveen Patnaik.
And honestly, this is where the details get very upsetting.
Susant Sahu was apparently picked up by police on May 25 during some raid connected to illegal stone blasting . He was kept in detention for seven whole days.
But after all that time, his involvement was never even established . And instead of being released,he was sent back to his family in critical condition . He died at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur on May 29 .
Few things standing out in this whole situation:
- Family is claiming Susant was badly tortured during detention.
- Public anger has led to suspension of three police officials already.
- BJD is now saying they are dedicated to justice and human rights.
The whole thing has caused huge anger in the local community, with everyone demanding accountability . This BJD investigation seems to be in response to that pressure only.
But you have to ask,why was a disabled man held for seven days with no proof? whole system failed him from start to finish.
The party is saying all the right things about solidarity with family and protecting human rights . But we have heard these things before… I just hope this time it's different for Susant Sahu's family…
