So some pretty high-level diplomatic news coming out of New Delhi rn . Venezuela’s Acting President,Delcy Rodriguez,is scheduled to be in India for a working visit from June 3-7 .
This visit is happening after her earlier plan to attend the International Big Cats Alliance Summit got deferred . Now she is coming for direct talks with top leadership here .
During her stay, she is expected to have big discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to strengthen bilateral ties between India and Venezuela . MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal pointed out this will be her sixth visit to India,so she has a longstanding relationship with the country .
And honestly, sixth visit is not small thing ah. It shows there's some serious long-term connection here .
Her previous trips were when she was Venezuela’s Foreign Minister and Vice President . This time it's as the Acting President, which carries different weight altogether.
The main agenda seems to be packed with topics like energy, trade, investment, and healthcare . The MEA also highlighted that Indian public sector companies have already made big investments in Venezuela’s energy sector and want to explore more opportunities .
Few things standing out clearly for this visit:
- Focus on energy cooperation — India sees Venezuela as a key energy partner with big investments already made.
- Broad bilateral discussions — Talks will go beyond energy into things like pharma, healthcare, and even renewable energy .
- Strengthening regional ties — visit is also about boosting cooperation for the Global South .
But this isn't just starting now . Back on January 30 ,PM Modi and Rodriguez had a conversation where they discussed deepening their partnership, especially in digital technology, agriculture, and health. This visit feels like a follow-up to that conversation only.
And it's also important to remember the context . Rodriguez was sworn in as Interim President on January 5 after a lot of political turbulence in her country . So for Venezuela, this visit is probably a crucial step to reinforce its international partnerships.
It really feels like both countries are looking to solidify a relationship that goes beyond just buying and selling oil . The talk about Global South cooperation and digital technology suggests something bigger is being planned…
