On May 26, 2026, Sunetra Pawar, the president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Deputy Chief Minister, convened a meeting to stress the importance of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) initiative. She urged all party ministers, legislators, and office-bearers to actively engage in this process to ensure that no eligible voters are omitted from the electoral rolls. The SIR is a crucial undertaking aimed at verifying the voter database across Maharashtra, and Pawar's call to action reflects the urgency of the situation.
Pawar directed that the Block Level Agents (BLAs) should work in tandem with Block Level Officers (BLOs) in all 288 Assembly constituencies. She emphasized that this collaboration would not only facilitate the effective implementation of the SIR but also strengthen the party's organizational structure at various levels, including district, tehsil, block, and booth. The SIR campaign will commence from June 30 to July 29, 2026, during which door-to-door enumeration will take place.
- Voter verification from June 30 — The SIR will ensure all eligible voters are counted.
- Collaboration with BLOs — BLAs must assist BLOs for effective implementation.
- Party solidarity emphasized — Strengthening the NCP's structure during SIR.
During the meeting, prominent party figures, including Chhagan Bhujbal and Hasan Mushrif, shared initiatives already undertaken in their constituencies to support the SIR. This meeting comes on the heels of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) recent instructions to its cadre to draw lessons from West Bengal, where a significant number of ineligible voters were removed from the electoral rolls.
The NCP's proactive approach stands in contrast to the Shiv Sena's directive for its workers to prioritize the SIR exercise. The Chief Electoral Officer, S. Chockalingam, announced that the SIR will involve a physical verification of approximately 9.86 crore electors across Maharashtra, utilizing over 1,00,253 BLOs. This endeavor aims to refine the electoral database and enhance transparency in the electoral process.
