Sunetra Pawar, the national president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, convened a significant meeting to reaffirm the party's commitment to unity. The gathering, which included legislators, MPs, and senior party officials, was a response to recent turbulence within the party following the reconstitution of its national executive. Pawar stressed the importance of presenting a united front, stating, "Party unity is paramount; everyone should speak in one voice." This call for solidarity comes in the wake of the untimely passing of Ajit Pawar, whose legacy she aims to uphold.
During the meeting, Sunetra Pawar took the opportunity to outline her vision for the party's future, asserting that its growth hinges on collective effort. She pointed out that a cohesive approach is essential, particularly as the party navigates through the challenges posed by recent leadership changes. The newly formed national executive includes Parth Pawar, her son, as National General Secretary, and Jai Pawar, another son, as National Secretary, signaling a generational shift within the party's leadership.
- New National Executive formed — aims to strengthen party leadership and direction.
- Focus on unity — essential for consolidating the party's influence in Maharashtra.
- Upcoming anniversary celebration — scheduled for June 10, showcasing readiness to tackle challenges.
The meeting also witnessed a heated exchange between state unit chief Sunil Tatkare and senior minister Chhagan Bhujbal, reflecting underlying tensions within the party. As Tatkare addressed the crowd, Bhujbal's interruption highlighted the urgency of addressing internal conflicts. Tatkare defended his and Praful Patel's roles, stating they were unfairly portrayed as adversaries, and emphasized their efforts to stabilize the party post-Ajit Pawar's death.
Looking ahead, Sunetra Pawar expressed optimism about the NCP's future, contingent upon the collective commitment of its members. She assured that the party would soon embark on a statewide tour to strengthen its organizational structure, aiming for extensive outreach to the electorate. The revised documentation required by the Election Commission of India (ECI) will also be submitted shortly, as the NCP aims to clarify its internal situation and reestablish trust among its ranks.
