This Khet Bachao Abhiyan news actually feels like one of those things which farmers have been discussing for years,but now government is trying to make it national level . Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has called for nationwide launch of campaign from June 1 , 2026,starting at Ramsiya village in Madhya Pradesh's Raisen district.
And honestly,soil health issue is not small thing ah . Too much chemical fertilizer and pesticide use may give short-term result,but after some years land itself starts showing stress . That is exactly what this campaign is trying to address among farmers.
During virtual meeting with representatives from various agricultural institutions,Chouhan spoke about rising temperatures and imbalanced chemical use hurting sustainable agriculture . He said,"Rising temperatures, the indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers,and the escalating climate crisis pose serious challenges to agriculture."
Main focus seems to be farmer awareness only . Balanced fertilizer use,soil testing,soil health cards,natural farming methods,crop selection based on climate conditions and water conservation are all part of this plan . Basically,not just saying “use less chemicals”,but giving practical direction also.
Few things standing out in this campaign:
- Awareness on balanced fertilizer use so farmers can protect soil health .
- Collaboration among agricultural institutions,state bodies and local groups for proper rollout .
- Direct village visits by Chouhan to build farmer confidence through personal interaction.
But implementation is where real test will come . Chouhan has asked for detailed roadmap till June 30 ,including which officials and scientists will visit which villages . That kind of planning sounds good on paper,but district-level follow-up will decide whether farmers actually get useful guidance or just another meeting.
He also talked about proactive district-level planning and structured monitoring system for coordination . Plus,he has reached out to Chief Ministers of all states and asked elected representatives to take part by showing practical examples of sustainable farming .
Tbh,this part makes sense because farmers usually trust what they see working in nearby field more than big speeches . If local representatives,scientists and agriculture officials actually demonstrate methods properly,it can create more confidence .
Chouhan has described this as program of national interest and said success depends on cooperation among Centre,state governments and local agricultural bodies . He wants it to become mass movement for protecting agricultural lands and improving farmers' incomes.
And that is where question stays open… will this become real ground movement with farmers at centre,or just another campaign that looks strong in meetings but fades after June 30 ?
