On May 27, 2026,AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala came out in Bengaluru and tried to shut down talk about leadership change and power-sharing .
Honestly, this whole thing was needed because speculation around Siddaramaiah and possible changes had started dominating political conversations in state . When politics becomes more about “who is next CM” than actual election work,it creates confusion inside party also.
Surjewala was very clear in press conference . He said,"There is no such thing as power-sharing arrangement. Yesterday’s meeting focused on Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council elections." That is pretty direct statement only.
But still,in Karnataka Congress, nothing feels that simple ah . Because meeting had Siddaramaiah,D.C. Shivakumar,Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi present,so naturally people started connecting dots and making their own theories.
Few things standing out from his statement:
- No official changes discussed — Surjewala confirms that leadership changes are not on agenda .
- Key leaders praised — Both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar recognized for their contributions to party.
- Ongoing discussions about elections — Conversations about candidates for Rajya Sabha and Council elections are underway .
And Surjewala also made sure to praise both leaders carefully . About Siddaramaiah,he said,"Siddaramaiah is a very important leader...He has served as Chief Minister twice." That line itself felt like message to people who are thinking he is being pushed aside .
At same time,he highlighted D.C. Shivakumar's rise through party ranks, his grassroots connect and his experience under various Chief Ministers . So basically, both camps got acknowledgement in same room, same press conference.
Election discussion was also major part of his remarks . Surjewala said candidate talks for Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council elections are still going on and may continue for another two days . He added,"The leadership will decide who would be most suitable candidates to ensure better representation for both the party and the state,"
And tbh, this is where Congress has to be careful . If leadership rumors keep running while candidate selection is happening,it can easily distract workers on ground and create unnecessary faction feeling.
For now,Surjewala has tried to close door on power-sharing talk and keep focus on elections . But in Karnataka politics, when one clarification comes, ten new interpretations also come with it…
