Key Takeaways

  • BJP alleges irregularities in Punjab municipal elections
  • Demands cancellation and re-polling in affected areas
  • Emphasis on fair counting process with security measures

When party delegation goes to state Election Commissioner with claims like booth capturing, voter list manipulation and misuse of official machinery,it becomes serious matter ah.

On Thursday,a delegation from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),led by state President Kewal Dhillon, met state Election Commissioner and submitted memorandum over alleged irregularities during recent municipal elections in Punjab .

Their main point is that election process was compromised in some places . BJP has claimed that booth capturing happened, official voter lists were manipulated and government machinery was misused during polling .

And tbh, these are not small allegations . Because once people start doubting polling process, trust in whole system takes hit very fast.

Few issues BJP highlighted clearly:

  • Allegations of booth capturing — Claims of unauthorized control over polling stations.
  • Manipulation of voter lists — Accusations of altering official records to influence results .
  • Demand for transparent counting — Ensuring that the ballot counting process is impartial.

Kewal Dhillon also stressed that free, fair, and transparent elections are needed for public trust in political system . BJP has asked Commission to take immediate action and even consider cancelling polling in areas where irregularities were reported, with re-polling to ensure legitimate electoral outcome .

And this comes after municipal elections ended with voter turnout of 64% across 102 civic bodies, including eight municipal corporations . Counting is scheduled for May 29,and BJP leaders clearly want that process to happen without any interference.

A total of 115 counting centres have been set up across Punjab . These centres will have three-layer security system and CCTV surveillance, which sounds good on paper, but question is always about how strictly things are handled on ground.

State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhuri indicated that clearer picture of results is expected by around noon on counting day . But if one side is already raising such strong concerns before counting, then political temperature will obviously stay high.

And at same time, this is where voters also get stuck . They vote, they wait for results, and then allegations start flying from all sides… so what actually happened inside those polling booths, that question may keep hanging for while…
