Himachal Pradesh has taken pretty strong step now in fight against drugs, and honestly, this one will directly affect anyone applying for government job . Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu announced on May 30 that dope tests will be mandatory for all individuals applying for government positions .
And this is not small thing ah,because government job in Himachal Pradesh is still dream for many families . Now along with exams, documents and interviews, applicants will also have to prove they are free from narcotic substances.
During meeting with Administrative Secretaries,CM Sukhu said this step is part of ongoing fight against drug trafficking . Main idea is to make sure new government workforce stays drug-free,and at same time send strong message that drug abuse will not be ignored .
Few points clearly came out from this meeting:
- Dope tests will be mandatory for all individuals applying for government positions .
- Pending gratuity and leave encashment dues for Class IV pensioners must be paid quickly.
- Government also wants details on applicants seeking employment on compassionate grounds.
And tbh, this is where issue becomes bigger than just recruitment . CM Sukhu also asked for information about action taken against government employees involved in trafficking of ‘chitta’ (heroin). That part matters because if people inside system itself are linked with drug mafia, then normal speeches will not change much.
At same time,he instructed all departments to speed up payments of pending gratuity and leave encashment dues for Class IV pensioners,as per recent Budget announcements . Retired employees waiting for their own money is always painful to see, especially when these are people who already gave years to service .
CM Sukhu also asked for detailed reports on compassionate ground job applicants so government can take proper decisions . Along with this, there was mention of 500 posts of Junior Office Assistants in the IT sector, which shows administration is also looking at staffing and efficiency side.
But meeting was not only about jobs and pension dues . He also ordered Forest Department to remove uprooted or felled trees due to storms quickly, because delays can lead to resource loss for state.
Overall, this looks like government trying to connect many pending issues in one push: drugs, pensioners, jobs, forest loss, employee accountability . But real test will be what happens after announcement, because mandatory dope tests sound strict on paper… now question is how honestly and evenly they get implemented…
