So one statement from Abu Azmi is creating a big political storm rn . The Maharashtra Samajwadi Party chief is straight up questioning a police encounter in Ghaziabad that killed a murder suspect,Asad.
This whole thing is about the death of Asad, who was the main suspect in the murder of 17-year-old Surya Pratap Chauhan . Asad was killed in a police encounter on late Saturday night, and now Azmi is saying these actions are not always clean.
He is claiming that such encounters are often done with religious bias, especially in a state like Uttar Pradesh . He literally said,"Normally, there is no firing involved except in rare cases . But this has become a model. Criminals should be punished... However,in Uttar Pradesh, this is being done by looking at religion."
And tbh, that's a very heavy accusation to make .
He’s not the only one thinking this way . Maulana Sajid Rashidi has also supported this view, saying that we have to stick to democratic principles. His point was,"The fundamental question is this: in a democratic nation, there exists specific democratic system."
Few things standing out clearly from their side:
- They are demanding full investigation into the encounter.
- They are emphasizing that proper legal process, due process, must be followed.
- The biggest allegation is about religious bias in how law enforcement acts.
Rashidi also made a point that if police can just conduct encounters whenever they want,it weakens entire justice system . He is basically asking why these actions were taken only after the incident happened, questioning whole motive .
And you know how it is,these statements are having big political impact . They are challenging the story that we hear about law enforcement being super effective in Uttar Pradesh.
This whole debate is now making people ask some very uncomfortable questions about how accused people are treated and if religion is a factor in police actions . It just makes you wonder where the line is between quick justice and following actual law…
