Paromita Mukherjee showcased exceptional skill and composure to clinch the title at the 14th WIGA BPGC Open Ladies Amateur Golf Championship held in Mumbai on February 12. Despite a strong start from local golfer Uma Menon, who had a remarkable hat-trick of birdies on the second, third, and fourth holes, Mukherjee maintained her focus and gradually built her challenge throughout the rounds.
Menon, who was trailing Mukherjee by just one stroke overnight, set a competitive tone early on, but her momentum faltered as the tournament progressed. Mukherjee, currently the top-ranked player on the AVT Tour, displayed her experience and strategic gameplay, ultimately finishing the tournament with a score of two-over 72, translating to an overall total of 233.
- Final score of 233 — Paromita's total after three rounds
- Uma Menon's final score of 237 — securing the runner-up position
- Birdies on second, third, and fourth holes — Menon's strong early performance
The championship served not only as a platform for showcasing talent but also highlighted the competitive spirit among women golfers in the region. Mukherjee's victory is a testament to her dedication and skill, further solidifying her status in the golfing community.
As she lifted the prestigious Mahindra Trophy, Mukherjee expressed her gratitude for the support from fans and organizers, emphasizing the importance of such events in promoting women's sports. The success of the tournament reflects the growing interest in women's golf in India and sets a positive precedent for future competitions.
