On May 30,2026 ,the National Investigation Agency ( NIA ) launched coordinated searches across three northern districts of Kerala: Malappuram,Kozhikode, and Kasaragod. This was linked to ongoing probe into explosives seized earlier this year.
The earlier seizure happened on February 7 ,when truck was intercepted and explosives were allegedly found concealed among sacks of onions. Those onions were reportedly headed for hollow-brick unit, and that detail itself makes whole matter feel more suspicious than normal transport issue.
In Malappuram,NIA teams searched two places mainly: hollow-brick warehouse in Tirurangadi and residence in Wandoor. Investigators are now checking whether movement of explosives followed legal rules or whether there were breaches in procurement, storage,or movement.
Few things standing out clearly in this case:
- Investigators are examining legal compliance regarding explosives transport.
- NIA is exploring possible links between seized explosives and quarry operations in northern Kerala.
- Searches show wider probe into network involved in explosive procurement and distribution.
Initially,it was suggested that explosives may have been meant for quarrying operations. But tbh,the way they were allegedly transported among onion sacks is exactly why agencies are digging deeper now.
And in Kadumeni,Kasaragod,NIA officials searched residence and quarry site of one individual previously associated with granite quarrying. That does point toward possible connection between seized explosives and local quarrying activities, but nothing official has been clearly stated yet.
Investigators are scrutinizing documents, electronic devices, and records to trace where explosives came from and what their intended use was. In Kozhikode, details of searches have not been disclosed, but action across all three districts shows matter is being taken very seriously.
NIA has not released official statement on findings from these searches so far. So for now,big question remains same only: was this just illegal handling linked to quarry work,or was there something bigger sitting behind those onion sacks…
