A serious data theft incident has rocked the Mumbai film industry, with 66 hard disks vanishing from the office of renowned filmmakers Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti. The theft was discovered on May 21 when employees at their production company, Tiger Baby Digital LLP, found several crucial hard disks missing, which were essential for ongoing projects. These disks reportedly housed sensitive data related to films, web series, advertisements, and various other production materials.
The Bandra Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) and made an arrest in connection with the case. The arrested individual, identified as Mohammad Shahid Azim Khan, had worked as an office boy at the production house and was responsible for handling the hard disks. During interrogation, he confessed to stealing the disks over several months, indicating a deeper issue within the security protocols at the production house.
- Estimated value between ₹12 lakh and ₹13 lakh — the missing hard disks hold significant data and are valued highly.
- Potential for larger losses — if unreleased content is leaked, the financial impact could escalate into crores.
- Investigation ongoing — police are searching for additional suspects and the remaining hard disks.
According to police reports, the missing hard disks contained critical production materials for notable projects, including Made In Heaven and Ghost Stories. The production house had a total of 119 hard disks in storage, of which 66 are currently unaccounted for. Investigators are also examining the role of another staff member, Kalpesh Pawar, amid concerns of broader complicity in the theft.
This incident has brought to light serious vulnerabilities regarding digital security in the entertainment sector, where reliance on digital storage systems is paramount. Any leaks of unreleased footage or confidential materials could severely undermine the reputation and financial stability of production houses.
