Honestly,when senior Congress leader has to come out and deny conspiracy rumours publicly,it already shows how messy political atmosphere has become.
Meenakshi Natarajan,the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Telangana,recently spoke to media in Hyderabad about her rejected nomination for Rajya Sabha . She clearly dismissed talk that there was some internal Congress conspiracy to damage her candidacy.
But according to her,this whole rumour trail did not even start inside Congress . Natarajan blamed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),saying BJP pushed this narrative one day before her nomination was officially rejected.
And then there was another speculation also,that some Telangana Congress leader may resign to create way for her nomination . Natarajan denied that straight away and said,“No one in Telangana is resigning for me. These reports are completely baseless.”
Few things standing out in this whole episode:
- Meenakshi Natarajan accused BJP of using unfair tactics in her nomination rejection.
- She said matter is under judicial review,so she avoided speaking too much on legal side.
- She maintained that she will continue her political work and commitment to Congress despite rejection .
And tbh,this is where matter becomes more political than procedural . Natarajan said Congress is not disheartened by rejection and is instead seeing this as chance to expose BJP's political strategies.
She also alleged that BJP did not have sufficient numbers for a third Rajya Sabha seat,but still tried to influence outcome through pressure tactics and financial incentives . That is not small allegation ah,especially when she also criticised Returning Officers and Election Commission for compromising integrity of democratic process .
Natarajan also brought in Rahul Gandhi's concerns about electoral fairness,referring to ongoing issues of “vote theft” and “seat theft” over past two years . Her larger point was that opposition parties are facing serious challenges in current political climate,especially when election process itself is being questioned .
And honestly,whether one agrees with Congress or BJP or neither,this kind of nomination fight turning into full trust issue around electoral process is uncomfortable . If every rejection becomes conspiracy claim and every process becomes suspect,then where does confidence go from here…
