Because Swiggy and Zomato are things people use daily without thinking twice,and now government saying there are complaints of narcotics distribution through such platforms is not small thing ah.
On June 21, 2026,Kerala's Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala spoke about this issue and said government had received multiple complaints about misuse of platforms like Swiggy and Zomato . His warning was very direct also,strict actions would be taken against any delivery agents found involved in illegal activities.
And tbh,this is where regular convenience suddenly starts feeling unsafe . Food delivery person coming to gate is normal scene now,but if even small number of people misuse that system for drugs,then whole trust gets damaged.
Chennithala said state’s anti-narcotics initiative,Operation Toofan,is being intensified to target drug distribution networks . He also made it clear that police officers would not entertain any external recommendations or interventions in cases linked to this operation. Basically,no pressure calls,no influence game,no soft corner .
Few things standing out clearly here:

- Ambulances are also under heightened scrutiny after reports of misuse for drug trafficking.
But food delivery apps are only one part of this bigger worry . Chennithala also spoke about reports of ambulances being misused for drug trafficking,which is even more uncomfortable because ambulance is supposed to mean emergency,trust and help,not illegal movement.
At same time,he discussed proposal for Mission Samudra,which is still in conceptual phase . He said stakeholder consultations are essential before moving ahead,especially since plan includes mineral sand mining and private sector participation. That part feels like something which can easily become controversial if people are not properly heard.
He also answered questions on alcohol taxation and referred to Congress party's previous opposition to tax reductions on low alcohol beverages . That suggests government stance may be shifting on this issue,but exact direction still feels not fully clear .
And on health side,Chennithala reaffirmed commitment to fully government-owned Haripad Medical College . This college was initially proposed under Public-Private Partnership model,but now government says construction would commence soon with target to start admissions by next academic year .
So on one side,Kerala government is talking tough on drugs through Operation Toofan,and on other side,it is pushing health infrastructure like Haripad Medical College . Both are serious public issues,but question is how much of this turns into real ground action and how much stays in announcements only…
