When devotees give money for renovation and consecration ceremony, they naturally expect accounts to be shown clearly . That basic trust only seems to be at centre of whole complaint now.
The Chandikeswara Nayanar Narpani Sangam,a Hindu organization, has now asked State government for judicial inquiry into alleged irregularities in administration of Arulmigu Ratnagiri Kumarakadavul Temple in Saravanampatti,Coimbatore.
Main concern is about funds collected for renovation works and consecration ceremony held around 15 months ago . According to petition, substantial money was raised, but income and expenditure details were not shared with temple devotees.
And this is where suspicion starts building . Because in temple matters, money is not just money for many people,it is offering, given with faith. If accounts are not openly shown, people will obviously start asking uncomfortable questions .
Few things standing out in this petition:
- HR&CE Department allegedly failed to act despite a Madras High Court order .
- Priest D. Sreekanth was reportedly forced to vacate his accommodations on HR&CE's instructions.
- Officials reportedly seized a silver spear used by priest for personal worship .
The petition also says that even after getting court order calling for action against alleged misconduct, the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department did not follow through . That part is serious because if court direction itself is not acted on,then ordinary devotees will feel what option they even have.
And then comes issue of Priest D . Sreekanth . As per complaint,he was made to leave temple premises under questionable circumstances. This part feels very personal also, because it is not just administration dispute now,it has reached someone's accommodation and daily religious practice.
The silver spear matter also looks sensitive. Petition says officials seized silver spear during inspection of priest's room, and organization wants it returned because it was used for his personal worship and also connects to temple tradition.
Tbh,whole thing needs clarity more than anything else. If money was collected properly and spent properly, then why not put details before devotees and end doubt . And if something wrong happened, then inquiry should bring it out.
But till State government acts on request for judicial inquiry, questions will keep hanging around Arulmigu Ratnagiri Kumarakadavul Temple… who handled funds, why accounts were not shown, and why priest issue became this messy…
