Key Takeaways

  • No applications rejected under Ladki Bahin Yojana
  • Suspended benefits due to incomplete e-KYC
  • Opposition calls for inquiry into exclusion issues

When reports say approximately 80 lakh women faced exclusion, people will obviously panic and politics will also heat up.

Maharashtra Minister of Women and Child Development Aditi Tatkare has now clarified that no beneficiary applications have been outright rejected. That line is important because many women were thinking their names are permanently removed from scheme only .

But situation is not so simple also. Tatkare said problems came because some applicants were not meeting specific age and income criteria, while some had vehicle registrations with RTO or were already getting benefits from other government schemes .

And then comes e-KYC issue, which honestly feels like biggest trouble point here . According to her, some applications had benefits suspended because e-KYC verification was not completed within required timeframe .

Because of all this, number of active beneficiaries reportedly dropped from 2.46 crore to around 1.66 crore . That is not small number ah,and this is exactly why opposition is asking questions.

Few things standing out clearly here:

  • e-KYC suspension issues — Benefits suspended due to incomplete verification processes.
  • Commitment to re-verification — Tatkare assures thorough review of all suspended cases .
  • Political pushback — Opposition leaders demand accountability and transparency from the government.

Tatkare has reassured that all applicants who completed their e-KYC,do not own vehicles, and still had benefits suspended will be checked again . She said,“I assure you that all these cases will be re-verified by the department,” which is basically government trying to calm down anger rn.

But opposition is clearly not buying it so easily. Supriya Sule, working president of the NCP (SP),has criticized government over alleged mass exclusion and asked for high-level inquiry into scheme. Her point is simple:people should know how funds were allocated and who actual beneficiaries were .

Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar also reacted strongly, saying exclusion of such large number of women could create widespread discontent against government . And somewhere, this worry feels valid because if poor women lose benefit due to technical errors, anger will naturally build.

At same time, government is saying eligible women will not be deprived. Opposition is saying there must be accountability and transparency. Between both sides, actual women waiting for money are stuck in middle… and that is where real question still sits.
