Fuel issue in Maharashtra has again become political fire point, and this time Harshwardhan Sapkal,President of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, has directly blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his administration . And honestly, when petrol, diesel,CNG and LPG gas all become expensive together, common people feel it first only.
Sapkal addressed media on May 28,2026 and said fuel prices and shortages in state are not some random problem, but result of central government failure . His main attack was that Modi government kept talking about 'Atmanirbharta' but ignored economy on ground.
He said,"Due to the absence of any concrete policy, the prices of petrol, diesel,CNG,and LPG gas have increased sharply." And that line will connect with many people because fuel price is not just vehicle issue ah,it enters kitchen, business, transport, everything.
Sapkal also claimed that since coming to power in 2014,Modi government has consistently increased fuel prices . According to him,government-owned and private oil companies benefited, but ordinary citizens were left struggling . He even said,"The economy has collapsed because of Modi government’s flawed policies."
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Sapkal blamed fuel price rise and shortages on Modi government’s negligence and absence of concrete policy .
- Small businesses, hotels and households across Maharashtra are being hit by fuel crisis.
- Onion farmers are demanding ₹3,000 per quintal while government offer is ₹1,500 per quintal .
And fuel shortage part is also serious because it does not stop at petrol pump . Small businesses, hotels and households across Maharashtra are reportedly facing direct impact . For people already dealing with high prices, this becomes one more daily pressure.
Then Sapkal shifted to onion crisis, which is always emotional issue in Maharashtra politics . He said nearly half of Maharashtra’s Cabinet had met Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah but did not get any substantial support . Government offer is ₹1,500 per quintal, but farmers are demanding ₹3,000 per quintal.
He also brought up Modi’s 2014 visit to Nashik, where farmers were assured competitive pricing . Sapkal said,"This amounts to cheating farmers." That is strong statement, and Congress has now warned of protests if demands are not accepted.
But then statement went beyond economy and farming . Sapkal alleged BJP is trying to create communal tension to regain power in 2029 elections . He linked this to atmosphere around Bakri Eid and said,"The BJP deliberately injects Hindu-Muslim issues into every festival and celebration to disturb communal harmony."
And this is where whole issue becomes bigger than fuel or onions only . On one side people are struggling with prices,on other side political parties are accusing each other of using religion and fear for elections . Maharashtra already has enough tension,so question is whether real problems will get solved,or everything will again get buried under politics…
