This Telangana political fight has now taken sharp turn again, and this time K.T . Rama Rao (KTR) directly went after Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy . During meeting with Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party workers on May 31,KTR basically asked one uncomfortable question — why talk about future elections before finishing promises made to people?
And honestly, this is not small political taunt only. KTR challenged Revanth Reddy to openly say that he will contest future elections only after fulfilling 420 promises made by Congress party in 2023 elections.
His point was that Revanth was trying to shift attention by saying he would not contest if electricity meters were installed on agricultural pump sets . KTR called that misleading, and argued real issue is Congress promises to Telangana people, not one dramatic statement around meters .
And this is where farmer issue becomes sensitive ah. KTR raised concern over proposed separate "Farmers' DISCOM",saying it looks like strategic move to slowly weaken or withdraw 24-hour free power supply currently given to farmers .
Few things KTR pushed strongly:
- KTR said Revanth Reddy should fulfill 420 promises before asking for votes again.
- KTR claimed separate "Farmers' DISCOM" is meant to undermine free electricity for farmers .
- KTR reminded people about Congress-era power shortages before Telangana's formation.
KTR also brought old power situation into discussion. He said Congress historically left state struggling with serious power shortages, where industries had to declare power holidays and farmers suffered because electricity supply was not enough .
Then he credited former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) for changing Telangana power sector, and said uninterrupted 24-hour electricity supply was achieved within six months of KCR taking office . For BRS,this power story is clearly one big legacy point.
But KTR's attack was not only about farmers. He also criticised Congress government over Hyderabad development in past two-and-a-half years . He recalled Cantonment by-election campaign, where 6,000 houses were promised in constituency, but according to him,not single house has been delivered.
And tbh, these promise-versus-delivery fights are going to keep getting louder in Telangana politics. Housing, welfare guarantees, free power, urban development… all of it is now becoming election language again.
KTR is asking people to stay alert about policies which may hurt farmers and urban residents, but Congress will obviously have its own counter. Still, question hanging there is simple — if 420 promises were made in 2023,how many will people actually see before next election comes…
