So RCB finally won the IPL again,but now this big news about Tim David is coming out . He's been fined 50% of his match fee and will miss the first match of IPL 2027. All this right after the final .
This all happened because of Level 1 Code of Conduct violation during the 2026 final against Gujarat Titans at Narendra Modi Stadium . High pressure match for sure,but still.
Apparently in the 10th over,after wicket fell,David aggressively threw an ice bag towards the on-field umpire,Nitin Menon . That's not a small thing ah. He scored 24 off 17 balls in the match,but this one action is what everyone is talking about rn.
And tbh,this is where situation gets more serious .
The match referee was former India pacer Javagal Srinath . He imposed the sanction and reports say David accepted what he did. So there was no big argument or anything,he knew he was wrong.
But the ban for next season is because this isn't his first time . This was his third Level 1 offence in the season,which took his total demerit points to five. And that leads to a suspension .
Few things standing out clearly in this case:
- This was David's third Level 1 offence,he had earlier deductions in Match 20 and Match 54.
- Accumulating five demerit points automatically means he misses the IPL 2027 season opener.
- RCB's title defense will obviously be impacted without a key finisher in first game.
And strange part is this happened in a match RCB actually won . They beat Gujarat Titans by five wickets and got their second straight IPL title. That win put them in elite group with Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians as the only teams to defend their title.
Captain Rajat Patidar also made history . He became first captain to win IPL in his first two seasons,joining legends like MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma. So much good news for the team,but this one incident is like a dark spot.
So even with trophy,RCB has to think about this . How will they start their next season without one of their main power hitters… It just feels like unnecessary problem to have right after such a big victory…
