Seeing some good news coming from Agartala where Indian Army and NDRF are doing joint exercises for flood relief . And honestly,it's good to see this proactive approach before monsoon really hits Tripura .
These drills happened on June 2 and were all about testing how ready different agencies are for a real crisis . It wasn't just them ah,local stakeholders and civil administration officials were also there to watch how things work.
And this is what's so important . Making sure everyone can work together without friction when disaster actually strikes. Not during the chaos only.
During these mock drills, they practiced everything from evacuating stranded people from fake flooded areas to setting up relief camps . The NDRF guys were showing off their specialized rescue techniques while Army managed the logistics part, like getting essential supplies transported.
Few key things they focused on:
- Specialized rescue boats deployed — teams practiced navigating through narrow and flooded urban corridors
- Casualty evacuation protocols — medical teams simulated transport of injured persons to safety
- Inter-agency communication — testing of radio and digital links between the Army and civil authorities
And this preparation is not just happening in Tripura . In Mizoram, the Assam Rifles just finished a five-day boatmanship training program for their own personnel.
This course was pretty intense, covering stuff like river navigation and how to handle outboard motors in rough waters . This is super practical because so many areas in the Northeast become completely inaccessible by road once heavy rains start.
A Defence Ministry spokesperson also said that these efforts are essential for building confidence among local communities . By checking all their standard operating procedures now,the Assam Rifles, who are often called the "Sentinels of North East",are trying to minimize the impact of natural calamities later.
It's all good on paper and in practice drills . But you always wonder how it will hold up when the real water is rising and people are panicking…
