Hyderabad footpaths have been mess for long time,so this GHMC clearance drive on June 20, 2026 is not small thing ah . Anyone who walks in city knows how quickly footpaths become shops, parking spots, storage areas and sometimes full construction zone only.
And this time,Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation started drive again after brief pause, following Supreme Court judgement saying public has right to walk freely . Honestly, that sounds very basic, but in many Indian cities even walking safely feels like luxury .
GHMC worked along with Traffic and Law & Order Police for this operation across Hyderabad . Officials prepared detailed schedules and focused on one major road stretch in each zone, which at least makes it look more organised than usual random action .
In Shamshabad Circle, team removed 15 permanent and 56 temporary encroachments on road from RGIA Police Station to Mission Compound . That is pretty big number for one stretch, and it also shows how much public space had slowly been taken over.
Few key numbers from this drive:
- Total encroachments removed: 283 — GHMC cleared 79 permanent and 204 temporary structures during this drive .
- Ongoing efforts: 2,620 encroachments cleared — since special drives began on April 4,2026,efforts will continue.
- Key areas targeted — major encroachments were identified in Moosarambagh,Golconda, and Khairatabad circles.
And Moosarambagh also saw major action, with 16 permanent and 33 temporary structures cleared . In Golconda Circle, authorities tackled 28 permanent and 59 temporary encroachments . Khairatabad too was among key areas where major encroachments were identified.
GHMC Commissioner and Zonal Commissioners were monitoring whole thing,so clearly this was not just local-level cleanup . But tbh, real test is not removing encroachments one day,it is keeping same footpaths clear after few weeks.
Because people walking on roads while footpaths are blocked is daily danger in Hyderabad . Elderly people, school children,office-goers,everyone ends up adjusting around vehicles and shops like that is normal life.
And now GHMC officials are saying similar drives will be conducted regularly so public can use safe and accessible walkways . Good if it actually continues, but question is what happens when pressure comes from local traders, political contacts and daily business needs again…
