So Fazil Nagar Assembly seat in Kushinagar,Uttar Pradesh is getting new name . And this seems to be part of a much bigger plan for the area .
The place will now be called Pawagarh . This was announced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at an event on June 2,2026 .
And honestly, the reason is quite interesting . The whole renaming initiative is to honor the legacy of Jain Tirthankar Lord Mahavir,to give the area a new kind of identity and recognition .
CM Yogi said, "A proposal has been sent to rename Fazilnagar as Pawagarh, which will connect area with legacy of Lord Mahavir and provide it with global recognition." The hope is that name linked to such a revered figure will attract tourists and devotees, and boost local economy.
But this wasn't just about a name change . At same event,he inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 278 projects . We are talking about an investment of over ₹424 crore here,so it's huge push for development in region.
Few things standing out clearly from this announcement:
- Fazil Nagar to be renamed Pawagarh to honor Lord Mahavir.
- Goal is to boost cultural tourism and give the area global recognition.
- CM also launched 278 development projects worth over ₹424 crore .
And of course, politics was also part of speech . CM Yogi contrasted his administration with previous governments, saying the focus has shifted from anarchy to progress .
He mentioned that earlier the region was plagued by problems like mining mafia and very poor healthcare . But now,he says,Kushinagar is getting new medical facilities and educational institutions. It’s a complete transformation story he is telling.
This renaming is clearly part of a wider strategy to change the image and reality of region .
Still, you have to wonder how much a name change really helps versus the actual development projects on the ground . Is the new name main thing,or is it the ₹424 crore investment that will truly change things for people living there…
