Beating No. 6 seed Amanda Anisimova at Stade Roland Garros in Paris is not small thing ah.
Parry defeated Anisimova on Saturday in proper long fight which lasted 2 hours and 44 minutes . Score was 6-3,4-6,7-6 and it really sounds like match kept swinging both ways till very end.
And this was not just another third-round win for her . Before this year’s tournament,Parry had reached third round of Grand Slam five times but never managed to go further . So this fourth-round entry is first time in her career, and honestly, that mental block breaking matters a lot .
What makes it bigger is opponent also . This win ended her seven-match losing streak against top-10 players, which means this was not just crowd energy or one lucky day only . She had to actually hold herself together against top level player.
Few things standing out clearly from this match:
- Parry reached fourth round of French Open for first time in her career .
- Match lasted 2 hours and 44 minutes with score of 6-3,4-6,7-6.
- She next faces unseeded Polish player Maja Chwalińska .
And tbh,the deciding tiebreak says a lot about her composure . In final set tiebreak, she dominated 10-3,which is quite strong considering match had already gone deep and both players had faced many break points.
After match,Parry said,“I just believed like all the matches I could win and go take it even in three sets.” Simple line, but it explains mood properly . She also has recently added two-handed backhand to her game and is still mastering it,so this run feels like part of bigger change in her tennis.
Now she will face Maja Chwalińska, unseeded Pole who also pulled off upset by defeating former world No. 3 Maria Sakkari . So next round is not some easy chapter either, because both players are coming in with confidence from big wins.
For Anisimova, this loss is also major because it is her first exit in third round of Grand Slam since 2020,ending eight consecutive third-round wins . She did say her wrist felt fine after match, which she took as positive, and also spoke about improving and adjusting her performance for future competitions .
But still, for Parry, this feels like one of those career doors opening suddenly in front of home fans… now question is whether she can actually walk through it again in next match…
