Key Takeaways

  • Delhi L-G T.S. Sandhu meets CAQM chief Rajesh Verma
  • Focus on pollution control and inter-agency collaboration
  • CAQM revokes Stage-I actions under GRAP schedule

Delhi air pollution discussion again came back in focus on June 1,2026,and honestly, people in city are probably tired of hearing meetings after meetings while breathing same bad air every season .

Delhi Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu met Rajesh Verma, the Chairperson of Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM),at Lok Niwas . Main discussion was around pollution in Delhi and what kind of steps can actually control air quality before situation becomes worse again .

And this is not small thing ah. Air pollution in Delhi is not some one-day issue,it keeps returning like clockwork and then everyone starts talking about emergency steps,GRAP,monitoring, coordination and all that.

As per statement released on X,both officials discussed need for better coordination among different agencies across National Capital Region (NCR) . This part matters because Delhi pollution never stays inside one border only. NCR agencies, local bodies, regulators, everyone has some role and if one side becomes slow, whole system suffers.

Few key points standing out here:

  • CAQM Sub-Committee recently decided to revoke all actions under Stage-I of GRAP schedule across NCR .
  • Agencies were told to strictly follow statutory directions and guidelines from Ministry of Environment and other regulatory bodies.
  • Sub-Committee will continue monitoring air quality and take future decisions using real-time data and forecasts.

On May 29,CAQM Sub-Committee took decision to revoke all actions under Stage-I of existing GRAP schedule . Basically, response is being adjusted because air quality situation is being watched differently now. But at same time,CAQM also made it clear that agencies cannot relax completely.

They have been asked to follow statutory guidelines and advisories issued by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and other local pollution control authorities . Because if these things are ignored,AQI can again slip badly and then same cycle starts.

CAQM also said these measures are needed to stop air quality from going into 'Poor' category . Monitoring will continue, with Sub-Committee reviewing situation regularly based on forecasts from Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM).

But honestly,Delhi people have heard many such plans before. Coordination sounds good on paper,real-time data sounds good too,but actual difference is felt only when air outside stops feeling heavy…

And that is where question stays hanging — will this meeting actually change something on ground,or will Delhi again wait for next pollution spike before everyone wakes up?
