Big political shift has happened in Karnataka, and honestly, this one was expected but still feels like major moment for Congress . D.K. Shivakumar has now been unanimously chosen as new leader of Congress Legislature Party (CLP),which basically clears path for his forthcoming role as Chief Minister.
Meeting happened at Vidhana Soudha on May 30 ,with senior Congress leaders and legislators present . Outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah himself proposed Shivakumar's name, and that detail matters because it sends very clear message of unity inside party.
G. Parameshwara seconded proposal, and after that legislators backed it through show of hands . No drama,no visible split,at least from outside . For party that has seen many internal equations, this kind of smooth scene is not small thing ah.
And then K.C. Venugopal,Congress General Secretary, officially announced Shivakumar's election as CLP leader . So now transition is no longer just speculation,it is officially moving forward.
Few things standing out clearly here:
- D.K. Shivakumar was unanimously chosen as Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader.
- Swearing-in ceremony is scheduled on June 3 at Lok Bhavan.
- Ceremony is being kept simple to avoid public inconvenience.
Shivakumar also expressed gratitude towards Siddaramaiah for his leadership and asked fellow legislators to pass resolution appreciating Siddaramaiah's contributions . Politically, this is smart also, because public respect between outgoing and incoming leadership helps avoid unnecessary gossip.
G.C. Chandrashekar, state unit Working President, said ceremony will be simple because it falls on working day . Large-scale mobilization has been discouraged so normal life in Bengaluru is not disturbed, and honestly, that is sensible if they actually stick to it.
After ceremony,Shivakumar plans to meet party workers and public across different districts of Karnataka . Direct connect with workers is important for him rn,because expectations are high and people will not just look at ceremony, they will look at delivery.
But at same time, big question is what comes after oath . Congress has shown unity in room, but governing Karnataka with all expectations, regional pressures and party equations is different game only…
