Boman Irani talking about working with Amitabh Bachchan somehow feels warm only, because this is not that usual filmy praise type statement . It sounds more like someone remembering early nervousness honestly, and admitting that even after so much work, learning never really stops.
In recent interview,Boman looked back at his early days with Amitabh Bachchan in Waqt . And he said working with Bachchan has always been a “special privilege” for him. Now coming from actor like Boman Irani, this line carries different weight.
He also admitted that during first project together,he was actually apprehensive about sharing screen with someone of Bachchan's stature . Which is very understandable ah,because standing in same frame as Amitabh Bachchan is not small thing.
In exclusive conversation with IANS,Boman said,“It’s privilege to work with everybody. Of course,it’s a special privilege to work with Mr. Bachchan. When I worked with him for the first time,I thought how will we do it? But realised eventually, they are all artists.”
And honestly, this is where his thinking feels refreshing . He is not putting one actor on some unreachable mountain and then stopping there. He is saying yes, respect is there, but at end of day, everybody is artist, everybody is part of same process .
Few things standing out from what Boman shared:
- Collaboration with Amitabh Bachchan was described as “special privilege”.
- Boman Irani said he still learns from Gen Z actors.
- His next film Peddi is set to release on June 4.
What I liked more is his comment about younger actors . Boman said,“If I don’t learn something from Gen Z person, then I am fool thinking that I am more experienced than them . Every day you learn something new.” That is actually rare kind of honesty in industry where seniority sometimes becomes ego very fast .
And tbh, this attitude explains why Boman Irani has stayed so loved for so many years . From Munna Bhai M.B.B.S . to Lage Raho Munna Bhai and 3 Idiots,he has never felt stuck in one fixed image . He keeps adapting, and maybe that openness is reason people still connect with him.
Now he is getting ready for Peddi, which stars Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor and is set to release on June 4 . Different generation, different scale, different audience again . But Boman seems to be entering it with same student-like mindset .
And maybe that is real point here . In Bollywood, where everyone is busy proving seniority, success and status,Boman Irani is quietly saying that learning can come from Amitabh Bachchan also,Gen Z also… so who really decides who is teacher and who is student…
