Bollywood vs Hollywood comparison has come up again, and this time it is actor Siddharth Gupta speaking about it after playing Lord Krishna in newly released fantasy drama Krishnavataram . And honestly, his point feels quite simple but also very Indian at same time.
Speaking to IANS,Siddharth Gupta said that comparing large-scale fantasy films from both industries is not that easy because Hollywood clearly works with much bigger budget and stronger infrastructure . That part nobody can really deny ah.
But where he draws line is emotion and devotion . He believes Indian cinema has its own strength there, especially when story is connected with faith, mythology and feeling.
His exact words were,"Technically, comparing the two industries directly is difficult because there is a massive difference in budgets and infrastructure. However, when it comes to content, devotion, emotional depth, and intention,I believe we are second to none."
Few things standing out from his interview:
- Siddharth Gupta avoided copying previous versions of Lord Krishna.
- He said he did not feel pressure from earlier portrayals .
- He believes Indian cinema is very strong in content, devotion and emotional depth.
And tbh, this is where conversation becomes more interesting than usual Bollywood-Hollywood debate . Because technology, budget,VFX,sets… all these things matter in fantasy films, but Indian audience also connects very deeply with bhav, faith and character energy.
For preparing as Lord Krishna,Siddharth said he went towards texts, books and workshops instead of watching other actors . He said,"Whatever understanding I developed came from reading texts, studying books, and attending workshops . I kept asking myself how Lord Krishna would speak, how his eyes would express emotions, how he would breathe, walk, or carry himself."
That sounds like he wanted his own version, not just another copy of something already loved by audience . And with role like Lord Krishna, that is not small thing because people already have strong image in mind.
He also said there was no real pressure from past performances because he had decided not to watch them during preparation . His words were,"No,not really. Since I had already decided not to watch or follow any previous portrayal,I never carried that comparison in my mind while preparing for role."
But audience comparison will happen, that is almost impossible to stop . Especially with iconic roles like Lord Krishna, people remember expressions, voice, calmness, smile, everything . So now question is whether viewers will accept this new interpretation on its own terms or keep measuring it against what they already carry in their hearts…
