This Karnataka political drama is getting more uncomfortable now, especially after Basavaraj Bommai called caretaker CM Siddaramaiah's continued role in state politics a "hanging sword" over Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar . And honestly, that one phrase itself says how tense things are inside state politics right now .
Speaking at press conference in Haveri, former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, representing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),said BJP can return to power based on its own merits in upcoming elections . Not alliance drama, not sympathy wave type claim, but own strength only .
But his bigger target was clearly Congress and Siddaramaiah's position after being replaced as Chief Minister . Bommai said Siddaramaiah has political career of more than four decades, and even recalled that Siddaramaiah entered politics in 1983 .
He also spoke about their old association, including time when Siddaramaiah moved from Janata Dal (Secular) to Congress party . Bommai said he had supported Siddaramaiah during difficult phases, but now their political ideologies have moved far apart . That part felt almost personal ah,not just routine political attack.
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Bommai called Siddaramaiah's continued influence a "hanging sword" over Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
- He said Congress disrespected OBC communities by replacing Siddaramaiah as Chief Minister .
- He accused Congress government of taking nearly ₹4 lakh crore debt without creating productive assets .
And this OBC angle is where Bommai is trying to hit Congress hardest . He described Siddaramaiah as champion for backward communities and said Congress has historically neglected OBC leaders . According to him, communities which backed Siddaramaiah may feel deeply disappointed now.
He also said political backlash could come from those communities, and even claimed aspirations of Dalits and minorities for leadership chances have been damaged by Congress party's actions . Tbh,that is not small statement in Karnataka politics, where caste and community equations matter heavily.
On Congress government's stability,Bommai admitted they currently have clear majority . But he added future will depend on how Siddaramaiah's supporters are adjusted into state Cabinet . Basically,he is saying numbers may look fine from outside, but internal balance is real test.
And then came financial attack also . Bommai accused government of building nearly ₹4 lakh crore debt without creating long-term revenue-generating assets . He repeated BJP is ready for elections at any time, which sounds like party is waiting for any crack inside Congress camp .
But question is,whether this is just opposition pressure talk or actually sign of deeper discomfort inside Karnataka Congress…
