Just saw this news about Amit Shah's speech at some conference,and honestly,the numbers he mentioned are just staggering . 4.8 crore cases pending in our lower courts . That's not a small number ah.
This was during All India Fingerprint Conference-2026 on June 19,where he was talking about what the Home Ministry is doing about it . He said they are working closely with the Supreme Court to build a whole new system to clear this backlog .
The main idea is to make sure people get justice on time . Which is something everyone wants,because rn it feels like cases just go on forever.
And he also brought up the three new criminal laws that Modi government introduced . According to him,these laws are meant to fix all the loopholes in the old system and make criminal justice process much more efficient.
But he also put lot of pressure on police and forensic teams . He said evidence collection has to be perfect,with no contamination,to make sure the right people get convicted .
Few things standing out from his speech:
- Active engagement with the Supreme Court — working to create a system that reduces case pendency effectively .
- New criminal laws introduced — aimed at resolving issues within existing legal framework .
- Use of AI in crime data analysis — enhancing the ability to predict and prevent criminal activities.
And tbh,this is where it got a bit interesting . He talked a lot about using technology. He wants data from crime scenes to be analyzed with artificial intelligence and machine learning to find crime patterns . He even compared this to Mahabharata's Lord Krishna guiding the Pandavas,saying data should guide police to prevent crime .
He also mentioned that our National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) is being underutilized . He suggested it could be much more effective if more fingerprints from crime scenes were added to the database to track and identify criminals. He also repeated his idea for a modus operandi bureau inside NCRB to study crime patterns.
All this sounds very good on paper,of course . New systems,AI,better forensic work… it’s all the right stuff to say.
But implementing this across the entire country,at every police station,is going to be a massive challenge . Will it actually speed things up or just add another layer of complexity… that’s big question for me…
