Dissident MLAs have now reconciled and returned to official faction led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS),but whole episode showed how shaky things had become inside party .
This whole issue started after recent Assembly trust vote,when internal power struggle came out openly . A faction of 25 rebel MLAs,led by senior leader C. Ve. Shanmugam,claimed leadership of AIADMK Legislature Party . Not small thing ah,especially when party is already facing electoral pressure.
Then dissident group tried to push things further by submitting letter to Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar,proposing former Minister S.P. Velumani as new floor leader . At same time,EPS loyal faction also went to Speaker saying they had majority inside Legislature Party.
And that is where matter became messy only . Two sides,one party,two claims before Speaker… obviously this raised fear that AIADMK may actually split.
Few things standing out clearly in this case:
- Dissidents returned to EPS faction and strengthened his control
- Internal power struggle exposed divisions inside AIADMK
- EPS leadership consolidation is happening amid electoral setbacks
But rebellion slowly lost strength when dissidents could not secure proper political accommodation . Four MLAs from rebel faction resigned from Assembly and joined ruling TVK,while six others chose to return to EPS faction . After that,position of rebels became weaker.
Following reconciliation talks,dissident MLAs formally extended support to EPS . This then led to his unanimous election as floor leader of AIADMK Legislature Party,and letter confirming same was submitted to Speaker Prabhakar.
Still,one interesting part is C. Ve. Shanmugam . He remains notable dissident,and has not yet rejoined EPS camp or left AIADMK for ruling party . So yes,rebellion may be over on paper,but one loose end is still very much there.
For EPS,this is definitely big relief because party needed some stability after recent electoral challenges . But tbh,when MLAs are moving,rejoining,resigning and shifting sides like this,can anyone really say internal tension is fully gone…
