This whole Abhishek Banerjee hospital episode from Kolkata feels messy from every side . On May 30,2026,Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee was allegedly assaulted in Sonarpur, and after that what happened at hospitals has now become political issue only .
After incident,he was first taken to private hospital near East Metropolitan Bypass . Mamata Banerjee, his aunt and former Chief Minister of West Bengal, reached there shortly after . And according to her, hospital was not giving proper treatment.
Then he was moved to another facility in Minto Park . There, doctors examined him and later said hospitalization was not needed . Hospital also issued certificate saying “no admission required”.
And honestly, this is where things get uncomfortable .
As per report,no significant internal injuries were detected and Abhishek Banerjee was fully conscious . Hospital prescribed some medications, including digestive tablet . But politically, this did not calm situation at all, because Mamata Banerjee saw it very differently.
Few things standing out clearly here:
- Mamata Banerjee alleged political pressure from the Kolkata Police to deny her nephew proper treatment .
- Political tensions in West Bengal are already high after recent elections and misconduct allegations.
- Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition, assured Mamata Banerjee of assistance in finding treatment outside West Bengal.
Mamata Banerjee sounded clearly angry while speaking to reporters . She said,“Both hospitals refused admission due to pressure from the state administration.” That is not small allegation ah,especially when it involves hospital admission after alleged assault.
She also accused ruling government of planning assaults and political manipulation against her party . So what could have stayed as medical issue has now turned into bigger political fight in West Bengal.
After all this,Abhishek Banerjee returned to his residence on Kalighat Road in south Kolkata, close to Mamata Banerjee's own home . But question still hangs there… was this really medical judgement,or was politics sitting inside hospital corridor too…
