S. Inbadurai,a Rajya Sabha MP from AIADMK,has raised questions around Tamil Nadu's Sports Development Minister,Aadhav Arjuna, and his role in Basketball Federation of India (BFI).
On May 31,2026,Inbadurai pointed out that Aadhav Arjuna is still serving as President of Basketball Federation of India (BFI),even after taking charge as Tamil Nadu's Sports Development Minister . And honestly, this is where conflict of interest debate starts becoming uncomfortable .
His basic point is simple only. If one minister is responsible for policies and sports initiatives, can same person also head national sports federation which may come under government oversight? That question is not unfair.
Inbadurai said this dual position can affect transparency and impartial decision-making . He stated,"This raises serious concerns about a potential conflict of interest and undermines public confidence in impartial sports governance,"
Few things standing out in this issue:
- I.S. Inbadurai has questioned Aadhav Arjuna holding both minister post and Basketball Federation of India (BFI) role.
- Main concern is potential conflict of interest in sports governance .
- There has been no immediate response from Minister Aadhav Arjuna or Basketball Federation of India.
And tbh,the point about public perception matters here. In sports administration, people don't just look at whether bias actually happened. They also look at whether setup itself looks fair from outside .
The AIADMK leader also said credibility depends not only on absence of bias, but also on perception of fairness among stakeholders . That line hits because Indian sports bodies have already seen many controversies around politicians, officials and federation posts.
This issue has now opened bigger debate on governance standards in sports administration across India . Many who support institutional reforms keep saying regulatory authorities and sports administrators should have clear separation, otherwise accountability becomes messy.
But as of now,no immediate reply has come from Aadhav Arjuna or Basketball Federation of India regarding Inbadurai's allegations . So question is still hanging there, whether holding both posts fits ethical governance or whether this becomes another political fight with no clear answer…
