So big news coming from Chinese table tennis world,Wang Chuqin is now officially the captain of the men's team . And he is taking over from legend Ma Long himself.
Head coach Wang Hao made the announcement, and he sounded very confident in his choice . He said,"We hope that Wang Chuqin can carry forward the responsibilities and mission of the team captain" . This shows how much weight this role has .
And honestly, this is a huge responsibility for a 26-year-old . But then you look at his record and it all makes sense . He is already the world No. 1 and reigning Olympic gold medalist in mixed doubles alongside Sun Yingsha . Plus he is a key player with Fan Zhendong in team events.
His recent form has been just incredible.
Just last month,he led China to victory at ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships in London . And he maintained perfect record there, winning all ten of his matches . Not one loss.
Few things standing out here:
- He is taking over captaincy from a living legend,Ma Long.
- His recent performance in London was flawless with a 10-0 record .
- He is already World No. 1 and has multiple golds including from Olympics .
But the list of his achievements just keeps going . He got four golds at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou . He also won the WTT Finals three years in row,2022,2023,and 2024 . And at the 2025 ITTF World Championships in Doha,he took home gold in both men's singles and mixed doubles.
And it looks like they are building whole new leadership team . Liang Jingkun is going to be the vice-captain to support him.
This really feels like proper passing of torch moment, not just a title change . China's table tennis tradition is so strong, and this is the next chapter.
Everyone knows Wang Chuqin is a champion,no doubt . But to lead a team with that kind of legacy, and to follow in the footsteps of Ma Long… that's a completely different kind of pressure…
