So PV Sindhu made quite impressive start at the Indonesia Open 2026 . Seeing her win against Busanan Ongbamrungphan was definitely good news for Indian fans .
The match happened at Istora Senayan stadium in Jakarta on June 2,and honestly, that first game was so tight . Sindhu clinched it 25-23,then took second one 21-16 . Total 51 minutes on court .
And her record against the Thai player is just something else . This was her 11th consecutive win, making it 21-1 head-to-head. That is some serious dominance ah.
But now comes the really big challenge. Her second-round match is against world No. 1 An Se-young . And history there is… not great.
Sindhu has lost all nine previous matches against the Korean shuttler . So this is going to be massive test, especially after their last game at Singapore Open. Everyone is watching this one .
And it was really a mixed day for India tbh. On one hand,we had the men's doubles pair Arjun-Hariharan winning their match very smoothly . They beat Malaysia's Tan Wee Kiong and Nur Mohd Azriyn 21-18,21-10 in just 33 minutes. Very fast .
But then Lakshya Sen lost his match to Alwi Farhan from Indonesia, who is in top form rn after beating World No. 1 Shi Yu Qi recently . So that was always going to be tough.
Few things that stood out:
- Sindhu showed her aggressive game to win but faces her toughest opponent next.
- Arjun-Hariharan had a very dominant and quick victory in men's doubles.
- Other singles and doubles pairs faced some really difficult opponents and couldn't get through.
The women's doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand also lost . They were playing together for first time in over two months, and they lost 14-21,12-21 to Indonesian team . Same for mixed doubles,Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto lost to sixth-seeded Chinese duo.
So yeah,a day of some wins and some tough losses . But all eyes are now on Sindhu only. Breaking that 0-9 streak against An Se-young is what everyone is hoping for… let's see what happens.
