This Thoothukudi tornado news is genuinely scary because nobody really expects something like this to suddenly hit during normal evening . One full day of intense heat,and then suddenly thunder showers,then tornado… weather turned wild very fast.
On evening of June 21,2026,a tornado swept through Thoothukudi,mainly hitting areas near Pudukottai and Vaagaikulam . Reports say it struck around 5 p.m. with strong winds,and damage started happening almost immediately.
And worst part seems to be what happened near Vaagaikulam toll plaza . A mini theme park there was badly hit,with roofs getting torn off and debris flying around like anything.
Six individuals who were enjoying artificial waterfalls at park were injured after flying sheets from damaged structures fell on them . They were taken to Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital for treatment of fractures . Not small thing ah,one minute people are relaxing,next minute they are in hospital.
Few things standing out clearly from this incident:
- Several buildings,including those at mini theme park and toll plaza,suffered roof damage.
- High-tension cables were hit by debris,causing power cuts across area.
- Local medical facilities responded quickly and treated injured people .
The tornado also affected Thoothukudi-Palayamkottai four-lane national highway,damaging toll plaza and creating more disruption . After storm,there were twisted electric poles and debris scattered all around,which made recovery harder.
Thankfully,the tornado weakened after approximately 30 minutes and normalcy returned after that . But honestly,30 minutes is enough to cause real damage when wind is this strong and people are caught off guard.
And tbh,this is what feels worrying now . Heat in day,sudden thunder showers in evening,and then tornado-like situation… local authorities will obviously have to think harder about preparedness,especially for public places and highways.
Residents and local businesses are being asked to stay alert and report unusual weather to authorities . But still,how prepared can any place really be when weather changes this suddenly…
