This Tirumala taxi drivers protest feels like one of those issues where daily livelihood frustration has been building quietly for long time . On June 21,2026,taxi drivers gathered in Tirupati and openly raised voice against alleged harassment by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) staff .
And honestly, when drivers are standing with portrait of Lord Venkateswara in their hands,it shows how helpless they are feeling . Protest was organized by Tirumala Taxi Workers Association, and it happened outside TTD administration building.
Rajesh Yadav,a leader of taxi unions, said,"While thousands of pilgrims visit Tirumala daily, providing livelihoods to drivers, they have been harassed by the TTD staff under pretext of not downloading data/apps, which undermines their means of survival and threatens their source of income." That line about survival is not small thing ah,because for many taxi drivers, this is daily bread only.
At protest site, participants performed 'Palabhishekam' to portrait of deity and raised chants like 'Govinda, you alone shall protect us.' This is where whole thing becomes more emotional than regular union protest . They are not just complaining to officials, they are almost saying God must now protect them from system.
Few things standing out clearly in this protest:
- Taxi drivers allege TTD staff are harassing them over unnecessary data/apps downloads.
- Drivers from 18 different unions participated in protest.
- Protesters asked for immediate action and fair treatment.
Union leaders including Balamuralikrishna,Vasu, and Jana also joined drivers from different unions . That unity matters, because when 18 different unions come together,it usually means problem is not isolated to one small group.
And tbh, this app/data issue may sound technical from outside, but for drivers it is about income, access and dignity . If they feel pushed around while trying to serve pilgrims, then obviously anger will grow.
Taxi drivers also made point that they help pilgrims reach Tirumala every day . Thousands of visitors come daily, and transport workers are part of that entire experience . If drivers feel marginalized,it can slowly affect pilgrims also, not just workers.
As protest ended, taxi unions said they will continue efforts until demands are met . But real question is whether TTD administration will sit with them properly and sort this out respectfully,or whether this frustration will keep coming back again…
