Wow,what a day for Indian tennis at French Open ah. So much happening with our players .
N. Sriram Balaji and his Brazilian partner Marcelo Demoliner just did something amazing by reaching the quarterfinals of men's doubles on June 1,2026 . And they did it by beating a really tough team.
They stunned the sixth-seeded German pair of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz, and that too in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-4 . This is not a small thing at all .
For both Balaji and Demoliner, this is their first time ever reaching a Grand Slam quarterfinal . That's a huge milestone in any player's career. Their confidence must be very high rn,especially after their second-round win against Germany's Jakob Schnaitter and Mark Wallner with a score of 7-5,6-2.
And honestly, this is kind of performance that makes you sit up and take notice .
Few things standing out from the day:
- Upset victory — Balaji and Demoliner defeat sixth-seeded team.
- Junior success for Paparkar — Arnav Paparkar advances in boys' singles Round of 16.
- Balaji's mixed doubles campaign — he continues in mixed doubles with partner Alexandra Panova .
But at same time,it was mixed day for Indian tennis overall . Yuki Bhambri and his New Zealand partner Michael Venus unfortunately lost their second-round match. They went down to experienced Italian duo of Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori with scores of 3-6,4-6 .
And Bhambri's mixed doubles run also ended . He and his partner Alexandra Panova suffered a tough defeat in their second-round match against last year's semifinalists,Neal Skupski and Desirae Krawczyk, with a score of 1-6, 3-6 .
On junior side though, there is good news . Arnav Paparkar is looking very impressive and has secured his place in the boys' singles Round of 16 . He had a solid win over 15th seed,Kuan-Shou Chen of Chinese Taipei, with scores of 6-2,6-4 . Paparkar is also playing boys' doubles with Kunanan Pantaratorn from Thailand .
So it’s a day of big wins and some tough losses . One player reaching his first ever Slam quarterfinal, another one bowing out,and a junior player showing so much promise… it's a lot to follow.
