Wow,this is such a great story coming out of cricket world just before T20 World Cup . England's Linsey Smith has reached the top spot in ICC Women’s T20I Bowling Rankings for first time in her career .
And honestly,it’s her journey that makes this achievement so special. At 31 years old, this is not some young player bursting onto scene. She has been fighting for regular spot in England T20I team for long time.
She made her international debut way back in 2018 but faced so much competition to stay in the side . But her recent form has been just amazing, especially against New Zealand and India. She was even named Player of Series against New Zealand.
And that performance in Bristol against India was also so important for England's victory . It really cemented her place in team.
This is why this ranking feels so earned ah .
Few things to notice about the rankings rn:
- Top 10 bowlers are separated by only 39 rating points,so it's very competitive.
- England's bowling is looking very strong with Lauren Bell at third and Charlie Dean at fifth.
- India’s Shree Charani has also made huge jump to fourth place.
But competition is really tight . That 39-point gap between the top bowlers is nothing . It shows how intense things are going to be in the World Cup which starts on June 12 .
And it’s not just the bowling . In batting,Australia's Georgia Voll is still at top,and India’s Jemimah Rodrigues has also shown big improvements. So much talent everywhere.
For Linsey Smith, this is a huge personal success . And it also shows how much impact she could have for England in this tournament.
The whole landscape of women’s cricket is just so exciting right now . With Smith leading charge in bowling, you just know this World Cup is going to be something else… I just wonder if she can hold onto that top spot through all pressure…
