On June 19,2026,state reported ten new shigellosis infections across several districts, and this is not small thing ah.
Most affected area was Kozhikode, with three cases reported . Thiruvananthapuram,Thrissur, and Malappuram each reported two cases, while Palakkad confirmed one case.
But bigger worry is total number . Kerala has now recorded 196 shigellosis cases this year, and out of that,120 came just in month of June . That kind of jump in one month naturally makes people nervous .
And tbh,it is not only shigellosis creating concern rn . Health officials are also watching other infections because dengue fever has also been increasingly reported, with 98 cases documented across various districts.
Few numbers standing out clearly here:
- ten new shigellosis infections were reported on June 19,2026.
- Kerala’s shigellosis total this year reached 196,with 120 cases in June only.
- Dengue fever cases touched 98 across various districts.
Leptospirosis is also rising, with 21 cases reported on same day . Ernakulam alone accounted for 45 out of the total 90 cases of leptospirosis, which is quite heavy concentration for one district.
And then there is Mpox diagnosis also . A case of Mpox was identified in a 43-year-old man from Kilimanoor, who had recently returned from Saudi Arabia . That adds another layer of concern for health teams already dealing with multiple infections.
Healthcare authorities are asking residents to maintain hygiene and seek medical attention if symptoms appear . Fair enough, because when infections start rising together, waiting at home and ignoring symptoms can make situation worse .
But honestly, this whole situation feels like warning sign for public health system and for public also . Clean water, food safety, hygiene, early testing… all these things suddenly become very real when numbers start climbing like this .
And question now is how quickly these cases can be controlled before more districts start seeing same pattern…
