President Droupadi Murmu speaking at university convocation in Jabalpur feels like one of those speeches where message is simple,but actually quite heavy . On June 21, 2026,she addressed 36th convocation ceremony of Rani Durgavati Vishwa Vidyalaya (RDVV) in Jabalpur,Madhya Pradesh,and main point was balance .
And honestly,this whole idea of keeping Indian culture alive while still moving with modern world is not small thing ah . Many times people talk like tradition and modernity are opposite sides,but Murmu clearly pushed for both together.
During her address,she said universities have important role in building this balance between Indian culture and modernity . She also told youth to respect sanctity of their identities and traditions while accepting modern advancements.
Her line was very direct: "The balanced development of the country is possible only through coordination of modernity and tradition," she remarked . And tbh,that sentence pretty much carried whole theme of speech.
Few things stood out from her message:
- Tribal youth need more skills and knowledge so they can be included in mainstream.
- Large number of female students receiving gold medals was seen as progress in gender equality .
- Students were urged to take environmental conservation seriously in their life journeys.
And there was also strong mention of Rani Durgavati,the university's namesake . Murmu praised her as symbol of women's empowerment and resilience,which fits nicely with convocation setting,especially when many young women were being honoured .
But speech was not only about degrees and medals . She asked graduates to use education for societal welfare and to address challenges faced by underprivileged communities . That part matters because education can very easily become just job-focused,and social responsibility gets pushed to side .
She also expressed hope that government’s efforts in providing employment opportunities aligned with qualifications would yield positive results . For students sitting there with degrees in hand,this line must have felt very real because employment pressure is always there rn.
And then came values part,truth,compassion and service,which she described as foundations of Indian culture . Nice words yes,but actual test starts after convocation only,when these students step into jobs,families,competition and everyday compromises…
So big question stays hanging there,whether universities can really produce young people who carry both tradition and modern thinking together,or whether this balance will remain something we mostly hear in speeches…
