This Puducherry political update may look like routine press conference news at first,but actually there are few uncomfortable signals inside it . V. Vaithilingam,President of Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) and Member of Parliament,spoke on June 22,2026,and Thattanchavady by-election naturally became main talking point .
And honestly,the first thing that stands out is Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam angle . Vaithilingam clearly said party has not contacted Congress for support so far. His exact line was,"They have not yet approached us for support. We will take call when the situation arises,"
That statement sounds simple,but politically it leaves door half-open only . Congress is not saying yes,not saying no. Basically waiting mode.
But same press conference also had another messy issue,the confusion over those six candidates who contested against nominees from alliance partners in recent Assembly elections . When asked about different positions of All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge Girish Chodankar and PPCC leadership,Vaithilingam said AICC leadership had earlier spoken about action,but now there seems to be hesitation on disciplinary measures.
Few things clearly came out from this press conference:
- Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has not yet approached Congress for support in Thattanchavady by-election.
- Congress is still unclear on action against six candidates who contested against alliance nominees.
- Vaithilingam attacked NEET and high education costs affecting students and parents .
And then came NEET issue,which is not small thing ah . Vaithilingam criticized education policy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi,saying it is putting undue stress on students. He also spoke about mental strain and hardships due to lapses in examination process .
This part will connect with many parents because coaching centre fees are already becoming unbearable in so many places . Vaithilingam pointed to exorbitant fees charged by coaching centers and also said private schools are not following fee structures properly.
He urged government to regulate high fees of coaching centers and private schools which do not comply with fee structure fixed by Puducherry government . And tbh,this is exactly kind of issue people discuss at home daily,but politics often touches it only during election season.
So now Congress seems to be placing education stress,NEET problems,parent burden and by-election arithmetic in same frame . Question is whether this becomes real public pressure or just another press conference talking point before polls…
