Stray dog issue in Perambalur district is now getting more official attention, and honestly, this is something many local areas have been waiting for . Animal Husbandry Department has intensified animal birth control (ABC) and vaccination programs to control rising stray dog population.
Collector N. Mirunalini announced that dedicated ABC center has been established at Keezha Puliyur in Veppur Union . This center will carry out sterilization procedures for community dogs, which is basically aimed at reducing stray dog numbers without harming animals .
And this is not small thing ah,because stray dog issue is not just about inconvenience . It is also about public safety, rabies fear, animal health and how local bodies manage growing population in streets .
As per plan,ABC center will provide free sterilization services to community dogs . After procedure, dogs will be marked with distinctive ‘V’ shaped cut on their ears,so authorities and residents can identify which dogs have already been sterilized .
Residents have also been invited to bring community dogs to center for sterilization from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. . That community involvement part is important, because government programs alone cannot work if people nearby don’t cooperate.
Few key points from this move:
- Free sterilization services — The ABC center provides no-cost sterilization for community dogs.
- Vaccination against rabies — program includes administering anti-rabies vaccines to protect community dogs.
- Community involvement encouraged — Residents are urged to participate actively in the sterilization and vaccination efforts.
Along with sterilization, the vaccination drive will administer anti-rabies vaccines to community dogs . And tbh, this part matters lot because rabies risk is one of biggest fears whenever stray dog population increases in residential areas.
At same time,Madras High Court is already dealing with stray dog crisis through suo motu cases in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry . So local authorities stepping up now feels like pressure is finally moving from court discussions to ground-level action.
But real question is how consistently this will continue after initial push . One ABC center, local bodies, department work and resident support can help, but stray dog problem has been building for long time…
And whether people will actually bring community dogs between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.,or whether system will slowly lose momentum, that part is still hanging…
