At 83,when someone from The Beatles starts talking about who his favorite Beatle was, people will obviously listen .
Paul McCartney, the iconic member of The Beatles, recently opened up about his current and former favorite members of band in interview shared by ‘People’ magazine . And his answer was simple but also loaded with history .
He said,"Favorite Beatle? Well, there’s only one left. Now, it’s Ringo. During Beatles, I think we all used to look up to John," according to a report by ‘People’ magazine .
That one line only says so much ah . Now it is Ringo Starr, because he is still there with him in this long journey . But during those Beatles days,it was John Lennon who had that special place for all of them.
McCartney also explained why John Lennon stood out so much . He said,"He was very witty, and he was great to have in the group. I think all of us might have said John was our favorite." There was no official leader as such, but from way McCartney describes it,John had that natural pull inside group.
Few things from interview really stayed with me:
- At 83,Paul McCartney said his favorite Beatle now is Ringo Starr .
- During The Beatles years,he said they all used to look up to John Lennon.
- On May 29,McCartney released his 20th solo album,The Boys of Dungeon Lane, featuring duet with Ringo Starr titled 'Home to Us.'
And tbh,the retirement home story was also funny in very Paul McCartney way . He recalled how woman at retirement home changed lyrics of 'When I’m 64' to suit her audience, making it 'When I’m 84.' Small thing, but very human moment .
At same time,McCartney also spoke about John Lennon’s 1971 anthem,Imagine . He called it "beautiful vision",especially while talking about global conflicts and need for peace today . That part feels heavier because song is old,but message still keeps coming back again and again.
There is something bittersweet in hearing McCartney talk like this . One side new music,The Boys of Dungeon Lane,20th solo album,Ringo Starr duet… and other side memories of John Lennon, old friendships, old band energy.
And maybe that is why Beatles stories never fully feel like past . Fans are still trying to understand what those four people meant to each other, and even now,Paul McCartney is giving little pieces of answer…
