Key Takeaways

  • NEET UG re-test held on June 22, 2026
  • Students found the exam lengthy and challenging
  • Expectations for lower cut-offs among candidates

National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2026 happened again on June 22,organized by National Testing Agency (NTA),but mood around exam was clearly not calm.

This re-test had 1.4 lakh students registered across 307 centres in Tamil Nadu . In Chennai alone,22,128 students wrote exam across 43 centres, all hoping to move one step closer to medical education . Big numbers, but behind each number there is one stressed student only.

But many candidates came out unhappy with exam length, and physics section seems to have hit them hardest . Several students felt paper was lengthy and difficult, especially when they were already coming from weeks of uncertainty.

Originally,NEET UG was scheduled for May 3,but it was cancelled on May 12 after allegations of question paper leak . That cancellation itself created lot of confusion and emotional pressure, because preparing once is hard enough ah,but preparing again after such mess is different level.

Few things standing out clearly in this re-test:

  • 1.4 lakh students registered across 307 centres in Tamil Nadu .
  • In Chennai,22,128 students appeared across 43 centres .
  • Many candidates found physics section lengthy and challenging .

One first-time candidate,Pradeepa A,said something many students may relate to: "Though I had taken up private coaching, the re-exam paper was tough. My hopes of performing well have diminished." And tbh, that line says lot about how drained students are feeling after re-test.

Parents also seem worried badly . Manjula J,a mother of a candidate, said,"My daughter struggled to sleep due to anxiety over exam, impacting her studies significantly." This is not small thing, when anxiety starts affecting sleep and study routine before such high-pressure exam.

For some students, this was not even first attempt . Third-time candidate Devi (name changed) said,"I had high hopes after first exam, but the re-test was much tougher than anticipated . I feel disheartened about my future as a doctor." That kind of disappointment after multiple attempts can really break confidence.

Still, some are trying to find small hope in difficulty level . Ashish Matthew, who took exam for first time, said,"This might lead to a lower cut-off,giving us more chances for selection." Maybe that becomes true, maybe not,but right now students are just waiting for results with same anxiety hanging over them…

And that is what feels unfair here, exam ended, but mental pressure clearly has not . For many, this re-test was supposed to give clarity, but instead it has left them wondering what their future in medicine will look like now…
